
The Western District Golf Association Championships were played at the Warrnambool Golf Course on Sunday 15th March, 2026. Tee off began at 8am and the weather was perfect for a day out playing golf. The course was in excellent condition.
The Champion of Champions Trophy is contested by current club Champions.
The field of 84 players, who were representing 11 clubs across the district, included 38 men, 38 women and 8 juniors. There were 53 players registered to play 27 holes of Stroke in order to compete for the Champion of Champions and the District Championship trophies. There were 30 players playing 18 holes of Stroke. All competed fiercely, but in great spirit. Congratulations must go to all participants.
The Champion of Champions Men’s Trophy was won by Alistair Gillin from Timboon with a score of 109 for 27 holes. Alistair also won the Veteran’s Champion 27 Hole Stroke event.
The Champion of Champions Women’s Trophy was won by Alison Sinclair from Warrnambool with a 27 hole score of 132.
The Men’s 27 Hole District Champion was playing for the honour of winning the Marc Leishman Trophy. This was won by Paul Walker from Warrnambool with a score of 107 Paul also won the WM Bell trophy for the best Nett score overall.
The Women’s District Championship Trophy, played over 27 holes, was won by Sue Wilton, also from Warrnambool GC. She had a score of 129.
The boy’s Under 21 KG Horne Trophy, played over 27 holes, was won by Fred Beasley from Terang, who had a score of 110.
The Championships event is the most prestigious event on the WDGA calendar. The committee would like to sincerely thank the Warrnambool Golf Club for hosting this event, and also thank them for their assistance and their generous hospitality.

On Sunday 18 January 2026 the 1st round of the Western District Golf Association inc Junior Tournament, was played at the Hamilton Golf Club.
A big thank you to the Hamilton Golf Club for hosting this round for the juniors and a special mention to Tim Lloyd and Graeme Mustow for their assistance on the day.
Also we would like to say a big thank you to the club as the course was in excellent condition.

After the first days competition our Western Super Team was in 1st position in the team event Nett Competition.
Poppy DeWinne from the Benalla Golf Club had the best score of the stick with 81 and leading All girls by 5 strokes.
Sophie Johnson from the Clifton Springs Golf Club was equal leader in Nett competition with 64 another good score.
However day two was not the best for our team and we finished 3rd in the overall in the Nett competition, a Great effort by all players.
We would like to thank the following players for there contribution to the event over a number of years. Blake Heffernan, Elijah McLeod, Joseph Brown and Jack Clemenston from the Wimmera District. We wish them well moving into the Senior ranks.

We are pleased to announce that the Golf Australia Junior Regionals will be played on our District in 2026. The Terang Golf Club Have Made There course available for the event to be held on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th October 2026.

Myla Barbetti and Riley Johstone are the Western Golf association inc. Under 18 junior champions for 2025Myla Barbetti from the Warrnambool golf club and Riley Johnstone from the Hamilton golf club have won the two major prizes at the Final junior tournament played at the Cobden golf club on Sunday 30 November 2025
Myla Barbetti won the Thelma Green trophy for girls.
Life member Thelma Green was on hand and presented her trophy to Myla at the conclusion of play. Myla won by just one stroke from Arlee Hogan from the Portland golf club. Congratulations to Myla on her efforts.
Riley Johnstone won the Robert Farrar trophy for boys. Unfortunately, Robert was unable to attend and present his trophy. Riley was the outstanding player in the boy’s section, only missing one event for the year. Congratulations to Riley on his efforts and a huge thank you to his mother and father for assisting with the driving duties.

It is great to see that junior numbers are increasing at each event. The next event for juniors will be at the Hamilton golf club on 18 January 2026 10.00 for 10.30 am vic time
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to the team at the Cobden golf club for hosting the event. It was a bit wet under foot with it raining overnight prior to the event. That did not deter the juniors as they would not wait to get out on the course

The Western District Womens country week Squad was hit with a number of players coming down with illness prior to the event which had an impacted on the teams performance.
The Womens team played in Division one event. There first match was played at the Riverside Golf Club and was against , The Host District, Murray Darling and the Women lost them 5 to 2
WESTERN V MURRAY DARLING
In the PM match we Played against Ballarat and we lost 2 1/2 to 4 1/2
WESTERN V BALLARAT
On the Tuesday the women ventured to the Coomealla Golf Club. The Am Match was against our neighbours South West G.A. and again our women lost 21/2 to 41/2

In the PM match we played against Goulburn Murray and the match was Squared 31/2 to 3 1/2

The women had the bye on the Wednesday morning, so there campaign was done and dusted. As a result of the womens 4 matches , they finished in last position on the ladder. And as a result will be relegated to the second division in 2026.
A big thank you to everyone for there efforts over the 4 games and am sure will be looking for a batter effort in 2026.
The most Valuable womens player was Donna Weller, who won 3 out of the 4 matches she played in. Donna was a presented wing the Peter Roughana medal by last years winner Ellen Zeunert. Congratulations Donna on a great effort.
At the Conclusion of presentation of trophies it was announced that Country Week will be held in the Ballarat district in 2026. The event will be played between 14 to 16 September 2026 at Ballarat / Midlands / and Buninyong Golf Clubs.
This means that the event will be played two weeks earlier and not in school Holidays as has been in the past.
